Become a Table Setter

Summary

Table Setters are the readers, supporters, and community members helping build The Table from the ground up. Their support provides the foundation for thoughtful storytelling while creating a deeper connection between the magazine and the people it serves.

Help set The Table

For as long as people have gathered, the table has been where we have shared and held what matters.

It is where families have passed down stories, where neighbors have solved problems, celebrated milestones, and found common ground. And, where strangers have become friends.

The table is not just a piece of furniture, it is an invitation.

That idea is at the heart of what we are building at The Table.

We started this magazine because we believe Virginia is filled with extraordinary stories, but too many of them remain disconnected from one another. We live in a time when it has become easier to see what separates us than what brings us together. Too often, we talk about communities without ever sitting down with the people who make them what they are.

The Table is our attempt to change that.

We want to tell stories that remind us of who we are, where we come from, and what we can become. Stories about the people building new foundations. Stories about the places that shaped us. Stories that challenge us, inspire us, and sometimes simply remind us to slow down and pay attention. And quite frankly, bring us joy. Something that has been missing from mainstream journalism.

But creating the space for the table takes more than a few people pulling up chairs. It takes people willing to help set it.

That is what it means to be a Table Setter.

Table Setters are the people who believe this kind of storytelling matters. They are readers, supporters, and neighbors who want to help create a publication that belongs to Virginia and reflects the many voices that make up our commonwealth.

By becoming a Table Setter, you are helping us do something increasingly rare: create a place where people can gather around thoughtful stories and meaningful conversations.

Your support helps us find and share stories from across Virginia. It helps us work with talented writers, photographers, artists, and storytellers. It helps us produce a magazine designed not to be quickly scrolled past, but held in your hands, shared with others, and kept for years.

Most importantly, it helps us continue building a place where curiosity is valued and where listening is just as important as speaking.

We do not believe The Table belongs to us. It belongs to everyone who pulls up a chair.

Our hope is that, over time, The Table becomes more than a magazine. We hope it becomes a gathering place for ideas, stories, and conversations that help us better understand ourselves and each other.

The first issue is only the beginning. Every great gathering starts with someone setting the table. Someone deciding that the conversation is worth having. Someone making sure there is room for one more person.

Roll up your sleeves, put out the placemats, fill the glasses and help us build something to hold and hold onto.
